40 Days of Donations

Today (Ash Wednesday) marks the first day of the 40 Days of Lent. In the Christian tradition, Lent is the 40 days before Easter. During this time Christians are supposed to prepare themselves for Easter. They are encouraged to pray, give money to charities, and give up some of the things they might otherwise do for pleasure.* My mother always told us we were giving up chocolate. Chocolate was, and still is, one of my favourite treats, so you can imagine how much I hated that. To this day, my mother still gives up sweets and chocolates during Lent. I honestly don't know how she does it. I, on the other hand, prefer to go through my house and get rid of all the excess that we don't need and give it to someone who needs it. So here's my challenge for you... For the next 40 Days we are going to go through our homes and find all of the things taking up space in our homes and then we are going to DONATE these items. (Please throw away anything that's not in good shape, but don't sell anything.) Find a person or organization that can use them and just GIVE THEM AWAY! I think this is a great way to spend Lent (whether you're Christian or not). I'm sure that we all have things that we no longer need that are taking up space in our homes.
